SAN ANTONIO – Officials with Las Palapas Restaurant took to social media Wednesday to issue a statement remembering their beloved founder, Edward “Ron” Acosta, who was brutally murdered on Tuesday at his Far North Side home.
The statement reads:
We are heartbroken to learn of the tragic and untimely death of Ron Acosta. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
Ron was a man of deep faith, a generous spirit, and a true community leader. His warmth, vision, and work ethic left an undeniable mark on San Antonio. Many knew him as the founder of Las Palapas, but those closest to him knew him as a kind, God-fearing man who believed in serving others, whether through food, friendship, or faith.
Ron’s impact reached far beyond the restaurants he helped build. He brought people together, created jobs and opportunities, and shared his love of culture and community in everything he did. He will be missed more than words can express.
May he rest in peace, and may his loved ones find strength and comfort in the legacy he leaves behind.
Authorities say Acosta was killed by 39-year-old David Ruiz during a violent altercation. Sources say Ruiz is Acosta’s nephew.
According to a preliminary report, a housekeeper who was present during the incident contacted authorities just before 11 a.m. saying there was blood all around the victim and that she could not control the bleeding.
Paramedics attempted to save Acosta, but he was pronounced dead at the scene after bleeding out in his garage, according to the report.
Ruiz, a resident of California, fled the scene by car but was later located and apprehended in Kimble County as he was traveling westbound on IH-10. He is facing a murder charge in connection to the stabbing.
Ruiz is currently being detained in Kimble County. No word on his bond or extradition as of Wednesday morning.
