PHOENIX — A woman who was killed in a head-on crash on State Route 74 in Peoria on Thursday was identified by police on Friday.

Crystal Tena, 43, from Goodyear, was killed when a Ford Bronco she was driving was hit head-on by a Dodge Ram truck on SR74 between 87th Avenue and New River Road, just south of Lake Pleasant, according to the Peoria Police Department.

The crash led to SR74 being closed for more than five hours.

Peoria police said officers and personnel from the Peoria Fire-Medical Department responded to the crash just before noon Thursday.

Tena was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The highway closed around 1:15 p.m. and reopened around 6:40 p.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Police said that the initial investigation shows the truck was headed east on SR74 and attempted to pass other vehicles by entering the westbound lane. That’s when it collided head-on with Tena’s SUV.

The crash is currently being investigated by the Peoria Police Department’s Traffic Services Unit.

Impairment is not considered to be a factor.
