PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A woman is in custody after allegedly killing a man in a hit-and-run crash in west Phoenix.
Phoenix PD asked the public for help identifying a suspect’s car they believed was responsible for the crash that killed 32-year-old Miguel Alteres. On Saturday, police said they arrested a suspect.
Michelle Guzman-Garcia, 24, was taken into custody on Saturday for her alleged involvement in the deadly crash early Friday morning.
First responders were initially called to a crash involving a pedestrian near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road just before 6 a.m. When they arrived, they found Alteres with serious injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told officers they saw the driver of a gray Jeep Cherokee briefly get out of their car before driving off.
“We do believe that there may be some significant damage to the front of this gray Jeep Cherokee,” Bower said. “I’m not talking bumpers leaning off, but we’re going to see some dents. You might even see some of the victim’s blood, unfortunately.”
Bower said anyone in the community is encouraged to report anything suspicious. A $2,000 reward was offered for information leading to an arrest.
Arizona’s Family is still working to learn what led up to the arrest.
