No. 3 Texas A&M improved to 8-0 (5-0) on the season with a dominant 49-25 victory over No. 20 LSU Saturday night in Baton Rouge.
Following the massive win for the Aggies, Texas A&M Football’s Twitter/X account trolled LSU over canceling its drone show. The show, which was scheduled for halftime and the third/fourth quarter break, did not occur.
The show did not occur due to how bad things got for LSU in Tiger Stadium. Although it did actually hold an 18-14 lead at the break, Texas A&M scored 35 unanswered points to take a 49-18 lead with 6:12 remaining in regulation. Aggie quarterback Marcel Reed started the run with a five-yard rushing touchdown, and was followed by a KC Concepcion 79-yard punt return just minutes later.
Reed then hit running back Jamarion Morrow in stride for a 24-yard score to stretch the lead to 17. Two more rushing touchdowns later and Texas A&M had cleared out almost every single LSU fan remaining in the stadium.
Loss to Texas A&M turns up the heat on LSU’s Brian Kelly
The loss dropped LSU to 5-3 on the season. With frustration building around head coach Brian Kelly this week, many believed that this was a ‘must-win’ game for the Tigers. They were however humiliated at home, which led to ‘fire Brian Kelly‘ chants from the remaining LSU fans.
“He’s coaching for his job this season,” College Football analyst Josh Pate said earlier this week. “I wouldn’t circle this weekend. I would say this weekend, if they don’t get the job done, there’s a meeting in that building Sunday where some changes on his offensive staff are demanded. Then, the question becomes, does Brian Kelly look around and say, ‘I don’t have to answer to anyone. This is my offensive staff. You do what you feel like you need to do.’”
LSU was outgained 426-278 and recorded six less first downs than Texas A&M. After opening the season ranked in the top-10 (and even jumping up to No. 3 following a season-opening win over No. 4 Clemson), the Tigers will now be unranked with four weeks remaining in the regular season.
