A transit bus that was transporting children was involved in a crash and overturned in Lancaster Wednesday morning.
The crash was reported at 11:18 a.m. on Sierra Highway near W Avenue C when the bus lost control and hit the train tracks in the area, the California Highway Patrol said.
Officials said about 20 people were taken to a hospital. It was not immediately clear how many adults and children were onboard.
Details about the victims’ conditions were not immediately available.
A medical helicopter has been requested for an 8-year-old boy who is among those injured, but is considered in stable condition.
The city of Lancaster said the railroad tracks were damaged where they were struck by the bus, and authorities notified Union Pacific and Metrolink, both of which use the tracks in the area
The CHP said it is shutting down both directions of the Sierra Highway during the investigation.
