SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio staple let the good times roll for one last time on Wednesday before closing to make way for another business’ expansion.

Good Time Charlie’s on Broadway and East Mulberry Avenue closed this week after 46 years in business, but the property won’t stay vacant. Nonprofit DoSeum will be taking over the lease and is expanding into neighboring properties, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

DoSeum CEO Daniel Menelly told the Express-News the museum will renovate the front of the property and plans to use the extra space for outdoor programming and more parking.

DoSeum is buying a parking lot owned by Good Time Charlie’s owners and an adjacent site occupied by Taco Cabana.

Millard Stetler and Eddie Ruffo opened Good Time Charlie’s in 1979. The restaurant was known for its chicken fried steak, which the Express-News ranked No. 6 in its list of top 10 chicken fried steaks in San Antonio.
