The New York Giants will visit the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Sunday afternoon in Week 8, where they will look to pick up an upset and get back on the winning track. But they will be without several players, including, potentially, linebacker Brian Burns.

Burns missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday before being limited on Friday with a hip injury.

New York will enter the game banged up, with several players already on injured reserve (IR) and several more ruled out or doubtful: Cornerback Paulson Adebo (knee, out), defensive lineman Chauncey Golston (neck, out), and safety Jevon Holland (neck, doubtful).

Brian Burns injury update

Burns returned to practice on Friday after missing the first two sessions of the week, but he remained limited with a hip injury. He also left Denver last Sunday in a walking boot, but that was not mentioned on the Week 8 injury report.

During his Friday press conference, head coach Brian Daboll acknowledged that Burns took a step in the right direction but stopped short of guaranteeing he would play against the Eagles.

Burns was far more positive when meeting with reporters this week, vowing to play on Sunday.

“I’m good,” he said bluntly when asked about his physical status.

Burns has taken 77 percent of the team’s defensive snaps this season and leads the Giants with 9.0 sacks and 12 tackles for a loss.

Will Brian Burns play vs. Eagles?

Although he claims to be “good,” the Giants listed Burns as questionable on the injury report due to a hip injury suffered in Week 7 against the Broncos. As mentioned above, Burns also left that game in a walking boot and was visibly limping on his way to the post-game locker room.

The Giants elevated a wide receiver and safety from their practice squad, which is a good indication that they expect Burns to suit up.

Who would replace Brian Burns in the lineup?

Burns is playing at an All-Pro level for the Giants this season, which was his goal entering training camp. He was determined to take his game to the next level and rest among the elite, and through seven weeks, he’s done exactly that.

If Burns were among Sunday’s inactives, it would be a devastating blow for the defense. Rookie linebacker Abdul Carter is listed as his primary backup, but the Giants like to move him around with Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux also on the field.

Another option would be Victor Dimukeje, who returned from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list last week and played well in limited action.

The good news? All signs point to Burns being active against the Eagles.
