Indiana football remains the No. 2 team in the country in this week’s AP Top 25 poll. The Hoosiers earned 11 first-place votes and 1,589 total voting points.
IU also stayed at No. 2 in the USA Today Coaches’ poll, receiving 1,524 voting points but zero first-place votes. The Hoosiers have been ranked in both the AP Top-25 and USA Today Coaches’ Poll for 22 consecutive weeks.
Other Big Ten teams ranked in the AP top-25 poll include No. 1 Ohio State, No. 6 Oregon and No. 21 Michigan. Indiana has or will play three teams currently or previously ranked this season: vs. Illinois, at Penn State, at Oregon.
IU dominated UCLA on Saturday afternoon in a 56-6 blowout win at Memorial Stadium. The Hoosiers immediately set the tone on the second play of the game as linebacker Aiden Fisher returned an interception for a touchdown, and Indiana never looked back from there.
Indiana’s offense shook off an early turnover and scored a touchdown on seven of its next eight drives. The Hoosiers totaled 475 total yards on offense, including 262 rushing yards and four rushing scores.
Quarterback Fernando Mendoza led IU’s passing effort completing 15-of-22 passes for 168 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Wide receiver E.J. Williams Jr. tallied a career-high five catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Elijah Sarratt accounted for IU’s third touchdown reception.
In the backfield, Roman Hemby exploded for two touchdowns and 81 yards on 17 carries. Kaelon Black averaged 7.0 yards per carry with 10 rushes for 70 yards. Both Fernando and Alberto Mendoza scored rushing touchdowns.
Defensively, IU held UCLA to just 201 total yards and 3.8 yards per play. The Bruins converted just one third-down all game and coughed up three turnovers. Indiana’s defense generated three sacks, seven tackles for loss, six pass breakups, two interceptions, two quarterback hurries and one forced fumble.
The victory keeps Indiana’s undefeated record intact at 8-0 with four regular season games remaining. IU sits atop the Big Ten standings with Ohio State.
Up next, Indiana heads out East next weekend for a road clash at Maryland on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
