ORANGE PARK— Affectionately known as “Super G”, Eleanor Pendley celebrated her 103rd birthday on Sunday, Oct. 26.
Pendley had a lot to commemorate and a host of special loved ones to help her reflect.
Born in Wilson Creek, Washington, Pendley was the ninth child in her family.
By the time she was 12 years old, both her mother and father had passed away. She said it was her siblings who stepped in to help raise her.
Pendley worked for the Spokesman-Review Newspaper. Until she was 85 years old, she also volunteered at a local senior center and her church.
After officially retiring, Pendley said she moved to the suburbs of Seattle to be near her daughter.
She thought that would be her last move. That was until she visited her granddaughter in Jacksonville. Enjoying the Florida sunshine, she gave in to the encouragement, and moved one last time at 98 years old.
A current resident at Palagio Senior Living, she said she enjoys the friendships she has made and the fun experiences she’s had, including taking a helicopter ride on her 100th birthday.
Pendley is still active and full of life, enjoying the beach, playing games on her computer, doing puzzles and gardening.
She also enjoys spending time with her family, including her three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a six-month-old great-great granddaughter.
And as a fun fact, Pendley’s grandson is former Jacksonville Jaguar quarterback Mark Brunell.
