Cathedral of Hope United Church of Christ, The Dallas Bears and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence came together to welcome over 1000 kids and families onto the campus for a safe “Trunk or Treat” on Saturday, October 25.
“This same week, we fed over 1500 people through our food insecure programs, recycled 30,000 lbs of food and provided a safe place for LGBTQ+ individuals to seek refuge and counsel as folks yearn for belonging,” said the Rev. Neil Thomas.
“We also navigated the challenges of having a campus that welcomes all people, regardless of where they are in their lives,” Thomas said. “We had a dumpster fire, a young individual naked on the roof of a car and had $1000s of damage to a landscaping irrigation system ripped out of the ground.
“We also had a young couple come to be married, afraid that their marriage rights would be taken away before their planned marriage next year,” Thomas said.
