Veteran writes book inspired by his service in Afghanistan

  • July 2, 2025

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – A local veteran has written a book largely based on his time serving in Afghanistan.

It’s called Wombat by Win Anderson. It’s a satirical book that mixes poetry and short stories.

In an interview at the 7News Digital News Desk, Anderson says the writing style was meant to portray the chaos that goes on in your head when experiencing PTSD, or post-traumatic stress disorder.

He says the book has been a good outlet for him and for others he served with.

“I have several friends, who directly reached out to me after I published Wombat, thanking me for doing it because they said it gave them another outlet, another thought they never would have necessarily thought of writing as a way of therapy. But, also some of my friends that were there really appreciated it, because it brought up memories, you know, and it helped them relieve some stress and trauma that way also,” said Anderson.
