Gay-owned eatery Roy G’s, situated in the heart of the Cedar Springs Strip, at the intersection of Throckmorton Street and Cedar Springs Road, is now under new ownership, the new owners announced today (Monday, Oct. 27) at 5 p.m.
The new owners are Marc A. Buehler of BDO Hospitality, who is co-owner of Dallas Eagle, and and Arthur Hood and his husband Erwing Villanueva of HV Entertainment, which owns five bars in Chicago and the Atlanta Eagle and holds an interest in numerous other venues across the U.S., including Dallas Woody’s.
Buehler said, “We have always admired Roy G’s as a concept and the terrific destination the Street family created five years ago. We look forward to shepherding the brand forward with the continued commitment to great scratch-made food and hand-crafted cocktails.”
He added the new owners have no major changes planned in staff or operations, but they will be looking to expand hours on weekends “to offer more great dining options on Cedar Springs.”
The restaurant — with its rainbow-themed name (Roy G Biv: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue Indigo, Violet) — opened at 4001 Cedar Springs Road in early 2020 under the ownership of Mariel Street, a member of the famous Street restaurant family. Street said she had decided to sell Roy G’s to focus on the family’s other restaurants and to spend more time with her family.
Buehler has an extensive background in business management and executive management. He lives in Dallas with his husband and, as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, is “active in building positive spaces and environments in organizations in the DFW community.” He is also a commercial multi-engine rated pilot with experience in multiple aircraft, and he has two adult children who also reside in the DFW area.
Hood and Villanueva are Dallas-based entrepreneurs and real estate developers.
