A key writer behind Avengers: Doomsday has revealed details from an early version of The Kang Dynasty that never moved forward. During a recent Reddit AMA, the writer discussed a scrapped storyline featuring the Young Avengers. His comments offered a glimpse into what the canceled film might have explored.

The Young Avengers would’ve defeated a young Kang in Avengers 5

During a recent Reddit AMA, Avengers: Doomsday writer Michael Waldron revealed that he and Jeff Loveness once pitched a storyline for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty involving the Young Avengers defeating a version of Kang the Conqueror.

Waldron explained, “Jeff Loveness and I spent an afternoon pitching on the Young Avengers defeating a version of Kang and being so stoked about it… only to discover that that particular Kang carried a little card that said to Be Patient with him, it was his first day as a Kang.” He said the variant could be the “lizard Kang” who appears in the post-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Before Marvel retitled the project Avengers: Doomsday, Waldron and Loveness co-wrote The Kang Dynasty. Loveness, who also wrote Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, collaborated with Waldron during the early stages of development. Jonathan Majors’ firing later prompted Marvel Studios to rework the concept and move forward with a new direction under Waldron’s lead.

The original draft featured the Young Avengers, whose comic debut centers on their battle against Kang’s younger self, Iron Lad. Waldron confirmed that he and Loveness had adapted this storyline before Marvel implemented creative changes.

Marvel Studios later announced Avengers: Doomsday at San Diego Comic-Con, confirming Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Doctor Doom. The Russo Brothers will direct the film, set to release on December 18, 2026, followed by its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, on December 17, 2027. Both films will conclude the Multiverse Saga.
