A 35-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a teenage girl in Neptune Township.
David Leigh will have to serve at least five years before he is eligible for parole and will have to register as a sex offender, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said Tuesday.
Leigh, of Auburn, New York, met the then 14-year-old girl on social media in early 2023. He sexually assaulted her in April 2023 at a motel not named by prosecutors.
He was arrested in January 2024, and indicted two months later.
At Leigh’s trial in June, the girl testified against him, revealing he knew her age when they met. Prosecutors also presented electronic and physical evidence.
He was convicted after a week-long trial.
