Police in Hamiton say they’re investigating a hate crime that occurred in Ancaster over the weekend.
The incident, which Hamilton Police Service is calling a hate-motivated assault, happened on Oct. 25 at about 9:30 p.m. near Golf Links Road and Neville Drive in the Meadowlands neighbourhood.
Investigators say a 20-year-old woman was walking in that vicinity when she was approached by a vehicle. Its occupants then began to utter anti-Black slurs towards her and proceeded to assault her, they said.
Police say the vehicle along with its occupants are unknown to the victim.
The vehicle is described as a silver- or bronze-coloured sedan.
One of the suspects is described as a light-skinned male with curly black or brown hair. He was last seen wearing a grey or white sweater.
Police have not released further suspect information.
Investigators are asking residents and business owners in the area to review their security footage from 9 to 10 p.m. on Saturday for any “suspicious activity.”
This investigation is ongoing and anyone with further information is asked to contact the Division 30 Staff Sergeant at 905-546-3886 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
