Don’t ask me why, but I think Florida is going to put up a bit of a fight in the wake of head coach Billy Napier’s firing after the victory over Mississippi State. Even though the Gators have an interim coach, a disappointing quarterback and a defense that’s only been respectable against bad offenses, don’t be surprised if this is a close game and UF gives its fans a few fleeting moments of false hope before the Bulldogs remember what a talent advantage feels like. A win for Florida? That would be a bigger upset than finding a parking spot in Jacksonville on game day.

A coaching change, offensive adjustments and rallying around a rivalry game aren’t enough to spark a turnaround. The Gators put up a fight, but cannot keep pace to drop their fifth straight to the Bulldogs and continue a disappointing season. Georgia isn’t the dominant force of a few seasons ago, but coach Kirby Smart’s 2025 team finds ways to win the games it’s supposed to win.

The new-look Gators hope to snap a four-game losing streak against No. 5 Georgia with interim coach Billy Gonzales at the helm and an overhauled offensive system. While the Bulldogs haven’t been dominant like they have in the past, they still are one of the top teams in the SEC with loads of talent. The key for the Gators will be how quarterback DJ Lagway responds to the revamped offense. Florida, 7 1/2-point underdogs, will be hard-pressed to pull off the upset with so many moving parts.

So many things about the Gators are unknown right now. How will they respond after Billy Napier — a coach players obviously liked — was fired? Will new playcaller Ryan O’Hara change the way Florida runs its offense? Or will it be the same as it was a few weeks ago? Georgia, meanwhile, is as solid as ever. The Bulldogs are coming off a bye week, as well, but they have a much more impressive resume than UF. UGA has won four straight games in Jacksonville, and it will probably make it five on Saturday.
