The All-Electric Buildings Act is a 2023 law that requires some newly constructed buildings to use electric hook-ups rather than gas, with bans new gas hookups in new buildings under seven stories starting Jan. 1.

Last week, Capital Tonight’s Kate Lisa reported that several moderate upstate Democrats are asking Gov. Kathy Hochul to pause implementation of the law after the state’s grid operator, the New York Independent System Operator, reported future reliability shortfalls.

Allison Considine, interim director of New York Policy and Campaigns at the Building Decarbonization Coalition, doesn’t think that’s necessary and is strongly advocating against delaying implementation of the law for multiple reasons. She spoke with Capital Tonight’s Susan Arbetter.
