A woman in her 80s was stabbed inside her Long Island home by her home health aide, according to police.

Nassau County officers went to the home in Massapequa after getting a report of an assault. Inside, they found the elderly woman with serious injuries.

The victim was rushed to the hospital, where she is expected to survive.

Police believe an overnight home health aide stabbed the victim, though it was not immediately clear why the aide allegedly attacked the patient in her home.

Earlier in the day, a car sat idle between the lawn and a walkway, just steps away from the front door.

No arrests have yet been made, and police have not identified the suspect. Police did not state whether they knew where the suspect may have gone to.

The stabbing forced some nearby schools to initiate a lockout for 90 minutes as a precaution.
