Two people were arrested in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a man riding an electric bike in Clairemont back in March, police said Wednesday.
The collision happened around 1:30 a.m. on March 29 in the 6900 block of Balboa Avenue near Hathaway Street, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Police say the bicyclist in his 30s was going westbound and moving from the bike lane to the left turn pocket when he was hit by two cars. SDPD previously said the man was struck by only one vehicle.
Both drivers left the injured man in the roadway, SDPD said. He was taken to the hospital and died from his injuries.
Following an investigation, SDPD traffic investigators identified the suspects as 27-year-old Kamille Agustin of San Diego, who was believed to have been driving a white 2021 Dodge Charger at the time of the crash, and 23-year-old Anthony Phan of San Diego, who was believed to have been driving a gray Mercedes E53.
Agustin and Phan turned themselves in on Wednesday and were booked into County Jail for felony hit and run, according to police.
The investigation is ongoing.
Residents say the intersection on Balboa Avenue near Charger Boulevard is known to be dangerous because of heavy traffic. NBC 7’s Jeanette Quezada spoke with neighbors who are concerned accidents like this could happen again.
