Police investigated a bomb threat at R.L. Paschal High School on Thursday afternoon that delayed students’ release for hours, according to an email from Paschal principal Rodney White and Fort Worth police.

Officers conducted a thorough sweep of the campus and surrounding areas, finding no suspicious items or devices, the police statement said.

Police said a juvenile student called in the threat, and that the student is in police custody and will be charged with making a terroristic threat.

The high school was in “SECURE status” as of 4:30 p.m. but as of 5 p.m., White said Fort Worth police were starting a controlled release of students.

The school normally dismisses students at 3:45 p.m. every day but as of 6 p.m. Thursday many students were still on campus before they ultimately all left the campus.

Parents already near campus were asked to not approach the building and stay in their vehicles and follow officer instructions, the principal’s email said.

White said in SECURE protocol exterior doors are locked and nearby streets are temporarily closed while police investigate.
