The Philadelphia Phillies fell short of the ultimate goal again this season. But they have a chance to improve the roster in the offseason.
The biggest storyline of their offseason is the free agency sweepstakes of veteran slugger Kyle Schwarber. Schwarber’s contract ran out at the end of the season, and he’s projected to land a massive deal in free agency. There’s bound to be a lot of suitors in pursuit of his services.
Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley recently predicted Schwarber would return to the Phillies on a four-year deal this offseason.

“It’s possible the Philadelphia Phillies are weighing big changes this offseason. After all, they’re basically backtracking in the World Series race,” Buckley wrote. “Since losing in the 2022 Fall Classic, they were next bounced out of the NLCS in 2023 and have lost in the Divisional Series each of the past two seasons.
“Then again, Schwarber just completed his fourth season in Philadelphia, and all of them have been awesome, as he totaled 187 dingers with 434 RBI, so you understand why they don’t want to lose him. They’ll have enough money to keep them, though that might preclude them from adding a difference-maker elsewhere.”
The Phillies need to do everything in their power to make sure Schwarber never plays a game in a different uniform.
Schwarber is a fan favorite in Philadelphia. He’s also one of the best players on the team. Keeping him on the Phillies needs to be the team’s top priority, or they risk taking a few steps back this offseason.
