Toronto’s sudden pitching star, Trey Yesavage, is the best story this month. He was the No. 20 pick in the 2024 draft, and while that was maybe a little lower than expected, it looks like the decision of the year.
Only the folks who know Yesavage best understood what a smart call that was.
“I thought the Blue Jays got a steal,” Yesavage’s pitching coach at East Carolina, Austin Knight, told The Post by phone.
Yesavage dropped because he didn’t light up a radar gun by today’s standards — he throws in the mid-90s. But as one rival said, “The teams that passed on him are kicking themselves now.”
