The physical condition of Barcelona’s squad has become a major concern for Hansi Flick and his coaching staff. Data shows a clear decline in the team’s physical performance compared to last season – a trend visible both in training and during matches.

The Catalans believe this drop-off is one of the main reasons behind the alarming wave of injuries – 13 players have already suffered physical setbacks in just three months this season.

Players looking outside for help

As such, Javi Miguel of AS reports that the situation has led to growing unease within the dressing room.

In fact, several first-team players believe that the current regime at the Ciutat Esportiva does not place enough emphasis on strength training.

As such, they are now complementing their physical preparation outside the club’s facilities, with some even working with private trainers.

In fact, certain players have been relying on external specialists for some time now – both physically and mentally.

One notable example is Ferran Torres, who previously turned to outside experts to overcome anxiety issues and later worked with a personal fitness coach to regain form and reduce injury risk.

Meanwhile, Lamine Yamal has also undergone external medical evaluations to assess his ongoing pubic discomfort.

Confidence remains in fitness department

Despite the criticism, Barcelona maintain full confidence in Julio Tous, the club’s head of physical preparation and a figure regarded as one of the top strength specialists in world football. Internally, there is a belief that the situation can be reversed soon.

Furthermore, the Blaugrana have already acknowledged the problem and intend to reinforce gym-based strength work, allocating more time and resources to physical conditioning.

The aim is to restore the players’ fitness levels and prevent further injuries in the crucial months ahead.

In short, player concern over physical preparation has pushed several of them to seek extra help externally, but confidence remains in the club’s medical and fitness staff to turn things around.
