Three things are certain in this world: death, taxes and Kevin Smith (and Dark Horse Comics) being relatively unbothered by controversy that might stem from his creative wheels turning. The renaissance man —comedian, actor, writer, producer, podcaster, director and comic book aficionado — is back at it again with a return to action on your pull list, and Buddy Christ won’t be left behind.

Jay and Silent Bob return with the third installment of the View Askewniverse, titled Quick Stops, and Buddy Christ will be thankful they did. The latter was a victim of a holy heist, and it’s up to Jay and Silent Bob who find themselves right smack in the middle of the fallout, and it’s easy to guess just how wild things get from there.

Smith created Quick Stops as a four-issue series with a release on Halloween weekend, because, of course, and, right on brand, effortlessly mixes in humor with great artwork and a captivating, if not controversial, storyline to keep readers glued to its panels. After Buddy Christ suffers the heist, Jay and Silent Bob have a plan (though arguably not exactly a wise one), and that’s to summon the Angel of Death for assistance.

That plan goes extremely wrong, and they instead find themselves accidentally reuniting with Metatron, a powerful angel and the Herald of the Almighty who was made an on-screen character by Smith in his controversial 1999 film Dogma, portrayed at the time by actor Alan Rickman. The Voice of the One True God would like a word with Jay and Silent Bob about everything that’s going on, and their answers will likely not give him exactly what he’s looking for, if what he’s looking for is a reasonable thought process behind their actions.

There can be little guesswork as to what plot twists and comedically genius moments await, but a first look at the four-part Quick Stops series above lends to the imagination in a big way. When Jay and Silent Bob get together, their antics are plentiful, and when Smith’s unforgiving imagination fuels their adventure, be it onscreen or in the realm of comic books, the world has two choices — strap in and enjoy the ride or rage against his craft while knowing, perpetually, that Smith could not care less; and that’s because he’s having the time of his life … even if it’s at the expense of Buddy Christ.
