A 14-year-old was shot on the southbound SEPTA platform of the Broad Street and Cecil B. Moore SEPTA station on Saturday night, Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Pace said.

The station is on Temple University’s campus, and the university issued an emergency alert telling people to avoid the area on Saturday night just before 9 p.m.

The teen is listed in stable condition and is at the hospital for a gunshot wound to the hip area, Pace said.

Five spent shell casings were found at the scene, as well as a full handgun magazine and other projectiles from a weapon, Pace said.

Using surveillance video from the scene, officers were able to identify and take three people into custody a couple of blocks away, and at least one of them is suspected to be the shooter, Pace said.

“At this time, based on the information that we have, that it does appear that the people responsible for this shooting are in custody,” Pace said. “We do not feel there is any additional threat or risks to the community, and particularly the student body here at Temple.”

SEPTA and Temple University police assisted the Philadelphia Police Department in the search and are assisting in the ongoing investigation, Pace said.
