San Antonio Spurs Break Silence After Free Agency News originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
San Antonio Spurs fans rejoiced on the first day of NBA free agency as the team finally added a backup center. Luke Kornet, Finals winner with the Boston Celtics, agreed to a deal with San Antonio to play behind Victor Wembanyama.

While fans were thrilled with the news, the Spurs ended up losing a fan favorite, as Georgian forward Sandro Mamukelashvili agreed to a two-year deal with the Toronto Raptors.
Mamukelashvili averaged 6.2 points in three seasons with the Spurs and has long been a fan favorite, winning over hearts long before he scored 30 points in a shocking upset against the New York Knicks.
While losing Mamu hurt the locker room, everyone knows that he will get more minutes and money on a new team, and no one is blaming him for signing elsewhere or the Spurs for doing little to prevent him from walking.
“Thank you SA! Best of luck and love always,” he posted on social media.

While he is hopefully onto bigger and better things, his teammates weren’t happy to see him leave, either, and Jeremy Sochan pitched in on social media.
While Mamu didn’t get a ton of playing time, he and Keldon Johnson have long been two of the more vocal locker room presences, and whenever he stepped onto the court, he was met with thunderous applause.
Mamukelashvili will be behind Scottie Barnes, Collin Murray-Boyles, Jakob Poeltl, and perhapsĀ Jonathan Mogbo, although it is expected that he will quickly endear himself to the Canadian fan base.
