California authorities are searching for a man suspected of murder who was mistakenly released from custody last week.
On Wednesday, Oct. 22, Isaiah Jamon Andrews of Kent, Washington, was inadvertently released from the Martinez Detention Facility in Martinez, California, according to a statement from the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office issued Monday, Oct. 27.
Andrews had been detained on both a juvenile warrant from Sacramento and an out-of-state arrest warrant related to a homicide investigation. The sheriff’s office said it is now reviewing how the release occurred.
“After staff realized Andrews had been released, we launched a search of the immediate area and confirmed that Andrews was no longer in the area,” the sheriff’s office said. The U.S. Marshals Service and local law enforcement agencies are assisting in the search.
Andrews was originally arrested on Oct. 18 in California in connection with the fatal Oct. 15 shooting of a 20-year-old man in a Seattle hotel parking lot, according to an update from Seattle police. His arrest followed a vehicle pursuit involving the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office and other California agencies.
He was booked into Contra Costa County Jail on a temporary felony warrant for suspicion of homicide and was awaiting extradition to King County Jail in Washington to face murder investigation proceedings, Seattle police said.
Authorities urge anyone with information about Andrews’ whereabouts to call 9-1-1. The Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office can also be reached at (925) 646-2441. Tips can be sent by email to tips@so.cccounty.us or reported anonymously by calling (866) 846-3592.
