JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – If you’ve grown up in the Southeast, you know Publix is a staple for more than just groceries.
The subs and wraps made fresh to order in the Publix Deli are a go-to for many — whether it’s time for lunch, dinner or a midday snack.
That might be why Publix Subs earned the title of best sandwich shop/deli in the Jacksonville area in our 2025 JaxBest contest, beating out finalists:

All four were nominated by our News4JAX Insiders, who then picked their favorite from the Top 4 to crown best sub in town.
But do you know how to order a perfect Pub Sub?
According to Southern Living, it’s all about the order of your order:

Start with bread, of course

Then have them slather on the mayo or other condiments of choice

Next, go for the cheese and then the meat

Then pick out all your favorite veggies

And here’s the key: Have them add the Oil and Vinegar and THEN the salt (it helps the salt stick and season your veggies!)
And you can request your sub to be cut into any size you wish. The pieces get wrapped individually, which can make it easier to share!
Allrecipes.com says the top subs are the Italian, the Chicken Cordon Bleu and the Chicken Tenders Sub.
