A driver who fled from police broke into an Allied Gardens home on Halloween night and barricaded himself inside a bathroom before being arrested, San Diego police said.

The pursuit began shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, when officers tried to stop a white Ford truck that had run a red light at Navajo Road and Park Ridge Boulevard, police Lt. Travis Easter said. The driver did not stop and fled, he said.

After about 10 minutes, officers used a spike strip, flattening his tires and causing him to ditch the truck in a neighborhood, police said. He ran off, broke into an occupied home on Hamlet Court and barricaded himself into the bathroom, police said.

Afraid of the potential for hostages, officers followed the suspect inside and fought with him. Police deployed a Taser, and he was taken into custody. He was booked into jail after being evaluated at a hospital.

The 41-year-old suspect was booked into jail on charges of burglary, resisting arrest, felony evading and fleeing police while driving the wrong direction, according to jail booking records.
