MARCY, N.Y. — A raccoon in Marcy has tested positive for rabies.

According to the Oneida County Health Department, the raccoon was tested on Nov. 3, and results confirmed the presence of rabies on the same day.

One individual exposed to the raccoon is currently receiving post-exposure treatment.

Signs of rabies include unusual behavior, excessive drooling, and animals getting too close.

Health department officials advise not to approach wild or stray animals displaying these symptoms and to contact local animal control for assistance.
