Re “City won’t turn off its ‘tap’ on taxpayers unless it’s forced to” (Oct. 31): In my opinion, elected officials and bureaucrats in California are so used to milking citizen-taxpayers that they see all the taxes and fees they collect from the public and from businesses as “free money.” It takes brave citizens like Howard Jarvis, who led the California property tax revolt in 1978 with Proposition 13, to stop this. Even though this measure was backed by huge margins of state voters, our current lawmakers are going against its spirit by forcing us to pay all types of new fees. The only way we can stop this is by “starving the beast.”
