Bodycam shows fiery crash at Phoenix Sky Harbor after high-speed chase

  • November 5, 2025

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Newly released video captures a Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputy trying to stop a driver clocked at over 120 mph on Loop 202, sparking a high-speed chase that was terminated before the suspect crashed at Terminal 3 at Phoenix Sky Harbor.

The sheriff’s office said one deputy was conducting holiday weekend DUI enforcement around 1 a.m. Sunday on Loop 202 near Priest Drive in Tempe when a driver, later identified as Ivan Correa, passed by at speeds exceeding 120 mph.

A high-speed pursuit ensued as Correa drove through Phoenix Sky Harbor trying to evade authorities. Deputies terminated the chase due to concerns about the dangerous speeds.

After the pursuit ended, Correa lost control at over 90 mph and crashed into a barrier just outside Terminal 3 ticketing and baggage check, causing his car to catch fire.

Deputy races to rescue trapped passenger

Bodycam footage shows deputies racing to get those involved into custody after the crash.

“Get on the ground. Get on the ground,” a deputy is heard saying in the video. “Roll over,” he said while handcuffing one man.

“Can I call my mom,” the man asked.

“You wanna call your mom, now? Come on man,” the deputy replied.

“I don’t know what to do, man. I’m sorry,” the man said. The deputy answered, “You don’t know what to do? Why don’t you just roll over.”

Video shows one of the handcuffed men trying to explain that there was a person still trapped in the burning vehicle. The deputy worked to get a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze, but Correa and a passenger fled on foot.

Moments later, deputies, airport staff and Phoenix police officers were seen in the bodycam working to pull the trapped person from the car.

“Deputy Cosme’s quick decision to remain with the trapped individual despite the driver and a secondary passenger fleeing ensured that all subjects were safely accounted for and allowed responding deputies to apprehend those who fled the scene,” MCSO officials said in a statement.

Authorities said those involved are expected to make a full recovery.

DUI charges against Correa are pending based on blood test results. It’s unclear what other specific charges he could face over the wreck. The sheriff’s office hasn’t said if any of the passengers will face charges for their involvement.
