There is a three-person race to replace an outgoing state senator in Tarrant County.

With early voting totals in, Democrat Taylor Rehmet, a veteran and union leader, is leading the way with 44% of the vote. Republicans Leigh Wambsganss and John Huffman are splitting the Republican vote, with Wambsganss taking 40% and Huffman taking 16%.

State lawmakers designed the district to select a Republican Senator during the last redistricting cycle, and big money was spent in this race to try to elect Wambsganss, a conservative activist who works for Patriot Mobile, or Huffman, the former mayor of Southlake and a real estate developer.

If no candidate gets the majority of the vote, the top two candidates go to a runoff election.
