Democrat Michael Cashman is the new assemblyman for the 115thDistrict. According to the New York State Board of Elections, Cashman beat his opponent, Republican Brent Davison, by less than 2,000 votes. The assemblyman race began over the summer, after Democrat Billy Jones announced he’d be stepping down from his role. Jones announced in August his plans to pursue a career in higher education at Clinton Community College.The race was called around 11:45 p.m., after results from Franklin County were officially called in. Cashman stood behind the podium to give his victory speech.In his speech, Cashman shared his love for the North Country and his plans to “till” the political landscape. He thanked the people who came before him, especially Jones and Janet Duprey, former 115th District Assemblywoman. Both Jones and Duprey have publicly endorsed Cashman.He also thanked his wife, Olivia, and handed her flowers during his speech.When addressing the people of the district Cashman will now be serving, he stressed the importance of facing the district’s challenges and finding solutions for them together, regardless of party affiliation. He said he does not want to leave anyone behind in his mission.Cashman had less than 100 days to run his campaign, which focused on affordability, public safety and ensuring a bright future for the North Country’s next generation. He said he’s spoken to people from all backgrounds across the district throughout his campaign, which covers 40 communities.Another tight race was for County Clerk. Democrat Brandi Lloyd ultimately took the lead over her opponent, Republican Jerika Manning.Brandi Lloyd gave her speech just after 11:15 p.m., thanking her family and her many supporters, including the labor union. She said she wants to highlight community service and good, small deeds happening in the community during her time as county clerk.Lloyd said one of her plans is to make the wait times at the DMV shorter.District Attorney Andrew Wylie ran for his sixth term unopposed and won. He’s been serving as the district attorney since 2005. Wylie was also present at Cashman’s party Tuesday night.The Clinton County Board of Elections called this a record-breaking number of early voters for a local election year. They said more than 4,000 people voted in the 10-day span of early voting, which is similar numbers to how many people cast a ballot during the 2022 Midterms.On Election Day, more than 10,000 people in Clinton County voted between 6 a.m.-9 p.m. when polls were open.
