Former QU player Dosier tasked with keeping WNBA’s Fever healthy

  • November 5, 2025

QUINCY (WGEM) – A former Quincy University basketball player has been entrusted with keeping healthy the most famous women’s player on the planet and her teammates.

The WNBA’s Indiana Fever announced the new coaching staff hire on Monday, bringing in former QU guard Rob Dosier as a player development coach.

The team hopes Dosier, who played for three years at QU graduating in 2019, can help rehabilitate the injury-plagued team — including star player Caitlin Clark — and, hopefully, keep the team’s roster from having repeat injuries next season.

“I am very excited to be in this new role with one of the great franchises in modern sports,” Dosier told WGEM Sports. “It’s a great opportunity to help the girls get better from what I have learned in my previous experiences in my career and help bring championships to the great state of Indiana.”

After playing at Southeast Missouri as a freshman, Dosier transferred to QU as a sophomore and was part of the 2016-17 team which won a school-record 25 games and included a trip to the round of 32 in the NCAA Div. II Tournament. Dosier also played the next two years at QU, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in sports management.

In a statement, the Fever announced: “We have added Rob Dosier to our staff as a player development coach. Rob will work alongside fellow player development coach Keith Porter.”

Dosier is well-versed in all things Indiana, and most recently worked as the assistant coach for the Indiana Pacers’ G-League affiliate team the Indiana Mad Ants. He also spent two seasons with the Washington Wizards and their G-League team, the Capital City Go-Go.

The news was met with enthusiasm from both Clark and Lexie Hull, who shared the update via social media.

The Fever saw five players go down with season-ending injuries this season: Clark, former Mizzou standout Sophie Cunningham, Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson and Chloe Bibby were all ruled out of participating in several games.

“My job will be helping the girls on the court and developing their skill set to help them move forward in their own careers, as well as helping us win as many games as possible,” Dosier said.

Clark, the former Iowa All-American, missed most of the season due to a right groin injury that she sustained in July. The injury was complicated by a later bone bruise in her left ankle, which was a separate but concurrently developing issue that also contributed to her absence from the remainder of the season.

Indiana had a roller-coaster season, making it to the WNBA semifinals after a difficult start and multiple season-ending injuries. Despite this, the team finished with a 24-20 record, secured a playoff berth, and pushed the eventual WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces to a deciding Game 5, where they lost in overtime.

After a career working on the men’s side, Dosier doesn’t think working on the women’s side will be much different.

“I think there are little differences but at the end of the day it’s still basketball,” Dosier said. “As well as these being the best female players in the world, me being able to be a part of their development is something I’m really excited about.”

In addition to his playing experience, Dosier has experience with player development. He was the head coach for the 15U and 16U Illinois Bears in 2016 and 2017. He also served as assistant coach for the Bears 17U team.

Dosier, who was born in Belleville but graduated from Marion High School, also completed two summers working alongside NBA skills coach Drew Hanlen in Los Angeles, working with NBA players including Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum, Joel Embiid, Bradley Beal, Meyers Leonard and more.

“I always had the open-door policy when it came to going to LA and learning from the best trainer in the world in Drew and train with some of the best players in the world, like Jay,” Dosier said. “So early on, being around Drew so much, I knew player development was what I wanted to do.”

Dosier is the second former QU athlete to land a job with an NBA or WNBA team. Murphy Grant, a 1996 graduate and football Hall of Famer, has served as personal athletic trainer for All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

As far as his memories of his time in Quincy, Dosier said one stands out above all others.

“My best memory will always be my first year at QU when we set a school record for wins and made it to the round of 32,” Dosier said.
