DALLAS, Texas (KWTX) – The Dallas Police Department’s Downtown Task Force arrested a fugitive wanted in Arizona while he was allegedly selling cocaine in the downtown area.

Dencel Idris, 33, is charged with evading arrest and manufacturing or delivering a controlled substance.

He is being held at the Dallas County Jail on bonds totaling $80,000.

Police said Idris was caught selling drugs in the 400 block of North Lamar Street at about 9 p.m. on June 27.

Downtown Task Force officers on a foot patrol observed Idris conduct a drug sale, at which point he ran from officers before ultimately being tased and taken into custody, police said.

“Idris had about 26 grams of cocaine at the time of his arrest, was wanted on multiple felony warrants out of Arizona, and is a documented gang member,” police wrote in a social media post.

“Proactively disrupting criminal networks and seizing dangerous drugs before they reach our streets is our priority,” said Assistant Chief Mark Villarreal.

“Every day, our officers are protecting lives with their dedication and vigilance.”
