Workers repair a utility pole that was struck during an accident Nov. 6 on South Cooper Street. The accident caused a disruption to power lines, leading to a WI-FI outage in parts of campus.
A passenger was injured and transported to the hospital following a crash Thursday, which caused a power outage at UTA due to a damaged utility pole, according to the Arlington Police Department.
At around 1:10 p.m., officers responded to a crash at South Cooper Street, north of Park Row Drive, said Tim Ciesco, the department’s media relations coordinator, in an email.
When officers arrived on the scene, they located a car with rear-end damage near Dutch Bros Coffee on the northbound side and an SUV that had collided with a utility pole near the Texaco station on the Southbound side.
A broken headlight from a car involved in a wreck was found on the sidewalk after an accident Nov. 6 on South Cooper Street. One person was injured in the crash.
The injured passenger was in the SUV, Ciesco said. There were no other reports of injury.
Damage to a utility pole near the Potbelly restaurant caused the power lines to go down, which affected sections of UTA’s campus. The outage also caused WI-FI and network issues across parts of campus, according to an Office of Information Technology statement.
A MavAlert notifying students of the incident was sent out around 2:10 p.m. By 3:30 p.m., a utility company had restored power, university spokesman Joe Carpenter said in an email.
Officers are still working to determine the logistics of the crash, Ciesco said.
