NEW WAVERLY, Texas — A child was rushed to a Houston hospital in serious condition Friday morning after being shot at a home in New Waverly, according to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies got the call of an accidental shooting at a house on Gibbs Street near Slott Lane around 11:16 a.m. Walker County EMS and the New Waverly Fire Department also headed to the scene.
First responders got there in less than a minute and immediately started working to save the child’s life, the sheriff’s office said. The child was first taken by ambulance to Conroe Regional Hospital, then flown by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.
The Walker County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is now looking into what happened, with help from the Texas Rangers. The scene was still active as of Friday afternoon, and officials said they won’t be sharing any more details right now.
We don’t know how old the child is, who pulled the trigger or if charges will be filed.
