San Diegans are in for a sunny, warmer-than-usual Veterans Day weekend, with the hottest temperatures expected Sunday and Monday around the region.

On Sunday, the coast will be pleasant in the 70s, while inland valley cities, such as El Cajon and Escondido, are forecast to reach 87 degrees or more, said Kyle Wheeler, a National Weather Service forecaster.

Monday will be even warmer. San Diego and Encinitas are expected to reach 80 degrees, while Escondido, El Cajon and Ramona could hit 90.

Weak offshore winds in the mountains will bring elevated fire risk.

Forecasters are also tracking a northern Pacific storm that could bring widespread rain to Southern California next weekend, although what that looks like and when it may hit are still up in the air, Wheeler said.

“As it continues to get closer, the system keeps slowing down,” he said, making it difficult to predict this far out.
