PHOENIX — There are Tempe street closures scheduled for three special events happening around the city, officials announced.

According to the city of Tempe, that events are the Collegiate Triathlon National Championship, Second Sundays on Mill and a Veterans Day Parade.

The events and closures will take place on Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, respectively.

Details on Tempe street closure for special events

For the Collegiate Triathlon National Championship roads will be closed until 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The closures for the championship include:

  • Mill Avenue closed in both directions between Washington Street/Curry Road and Rio Salado Parkway.
  • Curry Road closed in both directions between Mill and College avenues.
  • Southbound College Avenue closed between McKellips and Curry roads.
  • Lakeview Drive closed in both directions between Washington Street and Curry Drive.

For Second Sundays on Mill, Mill Avenue will be closed in both directions between University Drive and Rio Salado Parkway from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

During that time three other streets will be closed well. Fifth and Sixth streets will be closed in between Maple and Myrtle avenues in both directions.

Seventh Street will also be closed in both directions from Mill Avenue to Maple Avenue/Tower Drive. The city noted that local traffic will be allowed access to the area west of Myrtle Avenue.

The Veterans Day parade will close a number of streets from 9 a.m. until noon on Tuesday.

Mill Avenue will be closed in both directions from 13th Street to Washington Street/Curry Road. In addition, motorists will be not be allowed to turn from University Drive onto Mill Avenue.

Rio Salado Parkway will also be closed between Ash and Mill avenues in both directions. The city noted that drivers headed westbound on Rio Salado Parkway will need to turn northbound onto Mill Avenue.

There will also be a list of streets closed in both directions at Mill Avenue, including Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Ninth, 10th and 11th streets as well as Gammage Parkway.
