An FDNY firefighter died after suffering a medical episode while battling a fire in Brooklyn Saturday, city and fire officials said.
Firefighter Patrick Brady was responding to a five-alarm fire on Kings Highway in East Flatbush when he went into cardiac arrest, according to the FDNY.
He was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital, officials said.

“It takes courage to put on that uniform, to put your life at risk for others, to answer the call,” Mayor Eric Adams said. “There’s a reason we call them New York’s Bravest, and Patrick Brady personified that bravery.”
According to the FDNY, the 42-year-old Brady was an 11-year veteran of the department.
FDNY First Deputy Commissioner Mark Guerra said Brady’s death was the second FDNY line-of-duty death in the last two weeks.
Officials said Brady, who was a Belle Harbor resident, came from a family of firefighters. According to the FDNY, Brady’s two brothers are firefighters, and he had other relatives who are also firefighters.
“This family is a firefighter family,” Adams said. “They have been dedicated to protecting the lives of New Yorkers.”
No further details about the fire were available as of early Sunday morning.
