Jacksonville Jaguars bold prediction, breakdown of upcoming Texans game
Florida Times-Union beat reporter Demetrius Harvey breaks down how the Jaguars get a win over the Houston Texans in Week 10.
The Jacksonville Jaguars head to Houston to take on the Texans in Week 10. But they won’t be lining up across from C.J. Stroud.
The quarterback went down with a concussion midway through the Texans‘ last game against the Denver Broncos. Stroud’s head took a nasty bounce off the NRG Stadium turf, taking him off the field and into the NFL’s concussion protocol. Davis Mills took over for the rest of the game, a defensive struggle that ended in an 18-15 loss.
Stroud blew up as a rookie in 2023 and was a key reason Houston dethroned Jacksonville as AFC South champions. The Ohio State product made the Pro Bowl and earned MVP votes that season with 4,108 passing yards and 23 touchdowns, but he’s cooled off in the years since. He’s still one of the more exciting young QBs in the league and promises to be a thorn in the Jaguars‘ side for years to come.

Here’s what we know about Stroud’s status, his injury history and whether he is playing today vs. the Jaguars:
Is CJ Stroud playing today?
No. Stroud was ruled out Wednesday after suffering a concussion during the Texans’ loss Nov. 2 against the Broncos. He was not placed on injured reserve, which would have kept him out of Houston’s next four games.
CJ Stroud injury update
Stroud left the Nov. 1 game against the Broncos after he took a hard hit from Kris Abrams-Draine while sliding early in the second quarter. His head bounced hard off the field, and the QB stayed on the ground with his arms seemingly frozen in position, a frequent sign of head trauma. Stroud was helped off the field by trainers and led to the locker room, where he was ruled out for the game.
Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said Stroud he was “feeling a little bit better” Monday and wanted to see how he progressed throughout the week. Stroud needs to pass the NFL’s five-step concussion protocol to be cleared to return to play, something he clearly wasn’t able to do ahead of today’s game against the Jaguars.
