PHOENIX — A new affordable rental community designed for families recently opened in south Phoenix, Maricopa County announced in a Thursday press release.
The community, Ascent on Broadway, offers 161 units with spaces that range from 450 to 1,048 square feet. They are reserved for households that have an income at or below 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI), which can be calculated online.
Already 140 of the offered units are being occupied on the 4.2-acre property located at 316 W. Broadway Road, which features a splash pad, centrally-located laundry room, picnic areas and outdoor fitness equipment.
District 5 Supervisor Steve Gallardo said in the release that the need for affordable housing “has never been more urgent.”
“This new community shows how partners are working together to take meaningful action,” Gallardo said. “Ascent on Broadway gives Phoenix residents more options for stable, safe and affordable housing, which is a key step in addressing the challenges facing our families.”
The units come in the following sizes:
- 10 studios
- 26 one-bedroom
- 86 two-bedroom
- 39 three-bedroom.
Land acquisition for the latest affordable housing project in the county was funded by $1.6 million obtained through the American Rescue Plan Act and the total cost came in at $34.3 million.
At the beginning of this year, central Phoenix received its own affordable rental community, Acacia Heights II, which is a 66-unit complex located near Seventh Avenue and Camelback Road.
