State inspectors are concerned about a hole in the Carter Lake Dam, in Polk County between Houston and Lufkin.
Texas Emergency Management Agency officials have been inspecting an 8-inch hole in the earthen embankment of the dam, calculating the effects of the stream of water that’s pouring out of it.
And officials have been visiting home sites nearby to measure the likely effects of the scattered but steady water escaping from the dam.
But efforts are underway to lower the level of water in Carter Lake, which is a midsized lake on private property, and those living nearby are reporting a decrease in water flow from the embankment.
Officials emphasize that there is a possibility of flooding in the area of Carter Dam, and a list of areas that might be in danger can be found here.
A flashflood watch remains in effect for residents living near the Dam at Carter, near the Camden area, as workers plan to pump water today out of the damn to repair damage.
The public is advised to avoid the area until further notice.
