FORT WORTH, Texas — No. 3 Vanderbilt bowling won all three of its matches on Sunday to place third at the Bulldog Classic.
“We set out today to win three matches,” head coach John Williamson said. “We were able to do that. We played a different lineup each set and everyone contributed. I really liked Saphyre (Nofuente)’s performance when she came off the bench in rounds 2 and 3. Finishing 11-2 in this field is a great weekend. We’ll look toward New Orleans in two weeks to end the fall season.”
The Commodores started their day using a lineup of Haley Lindley, Sydney Bohn, Avery Domaguin, Katelyn Abigania and Dannielle Henderson to earn a 4-2 win vs. No. 2 Nebraska.
In round 2, Vanderbilt subbed in Saphyre Nofuente for Lindley and Alyssa Ballard for Bohn. After dropping game 1, 214-169 to No. 5 Wichita State, Vanderbilt responded with a dominant 280-211 win on game 2. The Commodores momentum continued into game 3 as they beat the Shockers by a score of 244-216. The two squads split the next two games, forcing a sixth. Vanderbilt earned a 253-185 win over Wichita State in game 6, winning the match 4-2 and moving on to play No. 11 Sacred Heart for third place.
The final match vs. Sacred Heart was high-scoring and back and forth. Vanderbilt won the first game, 223-182, and dropped the second, 227-208. Game 3 resulted in a tie with both teams earning scores of 213 pins. The Commodores took game 4, 246-202, which the Pioneers followed up with a 258-222 win in game 5. Vandy closed out the day with sixth and seventh-round wins by respective scores of 237-208 and 216-214. Natalie Kent entered the lineup for Ballard midway through the final match to contribute to the Dores’ 4-3 win.
After earning a fourth-place individual finish on Saturday, Henderson was named to the Bulldog Classic all-tournament team.
Vanderbilt bowling will have a weekend off before heading to Harahan, Louisiana, for the team’s fall finale at Tulane’s Colonial Lanes Classic on Nov. 21-23.
