BROWNS MILLS, New Jersey (WPVI) — Even in uncertain times, the family behind Riccardo’s Pizza say one thing is for sure: they won’t allow their neighbors to go hungry.
Following the recent government shutdown, they decided to offer free food to anyone in need, no questions asked.
Since making an announcement on social media, they have received countless calls and messages. Some have asked for help. Others have offered help in the form of donations.
Owner Vito Russo says it would be a shame not to reach out to the community after they supported them for 51 years.
Russo’s father, Salvatore, immigrated to the United States from Sicily and opened Riccardo’s Pizza in 1974.
Salvatore still works to this day. His sole job is to make the pizza dough.
All together, three generations of the Russo family are involved in the business. But their co-workers and customers have contributed to one large extended family.
They plan to continue offering food assistance, no questions asked, for the foreseeable future.
“As long as the Good Lord gives me the grace and the opportunity and this platform, we’ll keep it rocking and rolling,” said Vito Russo.
