The Small Business Administration’s Office of Disaster Recovery & Resilience is currently deployed in Kansas following the severe storms, torrential rain and flooding that occurred between June 3 and 7 in Butler County.
Officials opened an outreach center in El Dorado, July 1, according to Natalie Longwell, public information officer for the SBA Office of Disaster Recovery & Resilience, Field Operations Center—West. The office will be located at the Butler County Courthouse on the first floor in the former driver’s license room at 205 W. Central Ave, El Dorado, Kansas 67042. Office hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office will close at the end of the business day on July 24.
Although Butler County is the designated county, those living in contiguous counties of Chase, Cowley, Elk, Greenwood, Harvey, Marion, Sedgwick, and Sumner are eligible for services.
Longwell said the deadline for survivors to return applications for physical damage sustained during the storms is Aug. 26. The deadline to return economic injury applications is March 27, 2026.
The office is available to help businesses, homeowners, renters, and private nonprofit organizations. Many are eligible for low-interest disaster loans, up to $2 million for businesses, up to $500,000 for homeowners, and up to $100,000 for renters. These loans are designed to assist with losses not covered by insurance—with 12-month deferment on payments and interest accrual. The loans can also help with business operating expenses that could have been met if the disaster had not occurred and can offer funding for mitigation projects as well. There is no obligation to take a loan after applying.
Applications for disaster loans may be submitted online using the MySBA Loan Portal at https://lending.sba.gov or other locally announced locations. For more information, contact the SBA’s Customer Service Center at [email protected] or at 1-800-659-2955.
