Police say the accused also pushed the security officer while trying to leave with items he didn’t pay for

One person faces charges after an incident at a local business earlier this week.

In a news release issued today, Sault Ste. Marie police say officers responded to a call around 11 a.m. on Nov. 8 after a scuffle between the accused and a security officer took place during an attempted robbery from a business in the 0-100 block of Great Northern Road.

Police say the 53-year-old attempted to leave without paying for items when he was stopped by a security officer.

The accused then allegedly pushed the officer and tried to injure them “with a pin.”

The security officer was able to gain control of the accused and the accused was arrested when officers arrived.

As a result, John Casha was arrested and charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Assault with a Weapon

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 29.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
