Elvis Muñoz finds peace as his ex-girlfriend, Alexys Pinto, is sentenced to 10 years for trying to kill him.

HOUSTON — A man who survived being shot multiple times by his ex-girlfriend says he finally feels a sense of peace now that justice has been served.

Alexys Pinto has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting her ex-boyfriend, Elvis Muñoz, during a violent attack last September.

Muñoz said Pinto shot him so many times that the gun ran out of bullets. He survived after multiple surgeries to repair injuries to his lungs, intestines and hands.

“You’re willing to take care of someone and love them so much for three years and for them to pay you with bullets, try to take your life,” Muñoz said in a previous interview with KHOU 11.

He said the attack happened in a wooded area near Highway 288 and Airport Boulevard, where Pinto allegedly lured him under the guise of watching the sunset before opening fire.

After the shooting, Muñoz managed to convince her to get help. Pinto eventually drove him to a nearby gas station, where emergency crews were called.

Now, months later, Pinto’s sentencing brings Muñoz and his family a measure of relief.

Muñoz, once a mechanic, continues to recover from his injuries and told KHOU 11’s Anayeli Ruiz that knowing Pinto will spend the next decade in prison helps him move forward.
