Police have charged an alleged gunman over the shooting death of Sydney tradie John Versace, who was killed outside his family home in May.

Mr Versace, 23, died in the driveway of the Condell Park property in what police at the time described as an “extremely brutal and execution-style killing”.

‘Other lines of inquiry might open up’ after charges

Now that three men have been charged over the murder, Superintendent Box said detectives would still be investigating all lines of inquiry.

“We will see if there are any other persons that have been involved in the periphery, and we’ll continue to look at that as part of the investigation,” he said.

“Other lines of inquiry might open up.”

Shooting victim had no known criminal links

Superintendent Box reiterated that cleanskin plumber John Versace had no known criminal connections

“There is nothing at all to suggest that Mr Versace was anything but a hardworking young man, living at home with his family, was much loved and trying to set himself up for the rest of his life.

“Nothing at all would suggest any links to any criminal entities at all.”

Stand by for police press conference

Taskforce Falcon Commander Superintendent Jason Box will update the media after an alleged gunman was charged with murder over the May shooting of John Versace in Condell Park.

Mr Versace, a Sydney cleanskin plumber, died in a hail of bullets after being shot dead outside his family home.

A gunman ran toward Mr Versace after he had parked his ute about 10:30pm and fired 10 shots at him, police said.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but he could not be revived and died at the scene.

Police said at the time the cleanskin plumber had no known criminal links and was gunned down “in front of his parents”.

New charge comes after separate arrests last week

Last week, two men aged 19 and 43 were charged over their alleged involvement in the alleged murder and remain before the courts.

Police allege the 19-year-old assisted in the planning and preparation of the murder through acquiring and staging vehicles at various locations.

They allege the 43-year-old staged vehicles in preparation for the murder and drove the person responsible for the shooting to Mr Versace’s, waited in the vehicle while the shooting occurred and drove the person responsible for the shooting from the location.

Following further inquiries, about 9am on Tuesday detectives attended a Silverwater address where they charged a 21-year-old man with murder.

The man was refused bail to appear in Burwood Local Court.

Mr Versace’s death was one of several that led to the formation of Taskforce Falcon, a new police unit set up to investigate a string of shootings in Sydney.
